In the story, Maverick is taken to a shelter and spotted by a young girl, Scarlett, who falls in love with him at an adoption event. Scarlett is so moved by Maverick and his story that she and her mother decide to give him the forever home he is wishing for with all his heart.

Each year, millions of dogs and cats find themselves in shelters and with animal rescues like the Huron Humane Society through no fault of their own. Maverick and Me will help teach children about these innocent animals and empower even young readers to advocate for shelter pups.
